Guest Blogger, State Representative Tim Sneller, represents the 50th House District, which includes the cities of Grand Blanc and Burton, as well as Grand Blanc and Mundy townships. Â State Representative Sneller is a life long resident of Genesee County.
I have introduced House Bill 5190 to expand the Michigan Liquor Control Code to include the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour Champions Tournament in the list of sporting events to be issued a national sporting event liquor license. The PGA Tour held an annual Buick Open event at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc for 45 years through 2009, and will be returning to Warwick Hills in 2018 thanks to presenting sponsor, Ally Financial Inc. The Ally Challenge will debut the week of September 10-16, 2018. This is great news for my district, Genesee County and our great state!
For years, golf tournaments in our community attracted some of the top names in golf, including Tiger Woods, Billy Casper and Vijay Singh. It only makes sense that we encourage the tour to return to Grand Blanc by allowing them to receive this license. This world-class golf tournament will bring a much-needed economic boost to Grand Blanc and the greater Flint area by increasing tourism dollars to hotels, restaurants, stores and other local businesses in our community. It also continues a legacy in Michigan golf history that reawakens special childhood memories, while creating new memories for families to share together for years to come.
I look forward to working with members on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers to move this bill though the legislative process. House Bill 5190 was referred to the House Committee on Regulatory Reform on October 31, 2017. To stay-up-to-date on this legislation, as well as my other activities in Lansing and Genesee County, please sign up to receive my Capitol & Community e-newsletter at www.RepSneller.com and follow me on social media. It continues to be an honor representing the residents of the 50th House District in the Michigan House of Representatives.
